Our Programs
Ashiyanaa (formerly ASHA for Women) was founded in 1989 to provide culturally-competent support services to South Asian women and children impacted by interpersonal violence also known as domestic violence. Our expanded services are offered to all South Asians without exclusion or bias. We serve people with origins in Afghanistan, Bhutan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
How Do We Help?
- Ashiyanaa has a toll-free, safe, secure, and confidential helpline: 888-417-2742. This is NOT a hotline. For emergencies, please call 911.
- Helpline calls are answered by the client services manager who responds within one business day.
- Personal data and information is secured in a password-protected database accessible by authorized personnel only.
- All disclosed information is confidential.
- A plan of action is developed to navigate the complex systems that often prove overwhelming.
- Referrals to other providers to augment our services.
Our Programs
We combine extensive community outreach with the knowledge we've gained from years of serving the community to lead programs that address the ongoing needs of South Asians in the Washington, D.C. metro area and beyond.
