Executive Director

Ashiyanaa seeks an Executive Director who will oversee the administration, programs, and overall development of the organization.

This exempt, full-time permanent position is for immediate hire and reports to the Board of Directors. The ideal candidate will be a creative thinker with a passion for the organization’s mission, a dedication to expanding Ashiyanaa’s impact in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, and a proven track record of nonprofit management experience.

Ashiyanaa is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving people of South Asian heritage. We were established in 1989 to serve women and children impacted by domestic violence. Our mission is to empower South Asians to lead peaceful lives with dignity, hope, and self-sufficiency by providing comprehensive and culturally-sensitive services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee Ashiyanaa’s administration, fiscal management, and supervision of staff and volunteers, ensuring alignment of duties and responsibilities within and across all programs to meet the organization’s needs and objectives.
  • Serve as the chief spokesperson of Ashiyanaa through strategic community relations, communications, media appearances, monthly newsletters, and annual reports. Promote a positive organizational image by educating local governments and advocating on behalf of the populations served.

Qualifications

  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed.
  • Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Management or a similar field, with at least five years of management experience.
  • Proven leadership and relationship management experience, with a track record of effectively leading a performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff. Ability to provide specific examples of having developed and implemented strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth.
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational management, including coaching staff, developing high-performance teams, setting and achieving strategic objectives, and managing budgets.
  • Strong community and public relations, marketing, and fundraising experience, with the ability to engage a diverse group of people and cultures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Past success working with a Board of Directors, with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships.

Location

  • Hybrid. Will be expected to work in person at the Ashiyanaa office (Sterling, VA) 3 days a week.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary is commensurate with education, experience, and past performance. The salary range for this position is between $100,000 to $135,000. Benefits include paid vacation and federal holidays.
