A different type of thanksgiving

This year we saw the passing away of a woman who stood so tall and so straight, whose clarity of thought lit up the court, giving volume and power to the rights of women and men.  Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a legal giant: we are grateful for her.

During her 27 years at the nation’s highest court, she inspired many in the legal profession.  “Fight for the things that you care about. But do it in a way that will lead others to join you.”

In her footsteps…

Reuters reports:  “Across the world, other women trailblazers from Ethiopia and India to Kenya and Colombia have achieved similar victories in their home countries, pioneering changes in laws and setting legal precedent from the highest court benches.”

We urge you to read about them:

Leona Theron, South Africa

Njoki Susanna Ndung’u, Kenya

Elizabeth Odio Benito, Costa Rica

Meaza Ashenafi, Ethiopia

Monica Roa, Colombia

Menaka Guruswamy, India

Indira Jaising, India

A note of hope and optimism, this message from the ‘Notorious R.B.G’ will help us carry on:

As women achieve power, the barriers will fall. As society sees what women can do, as women see what women can do, there will be more women out there doing things, and we’ll all be better off for it.”
Ruth Bader Ginsburg, My Own Words
